When speed comes calling, the Epic Expert doesn't just answer, it yells back, 'Catch me if you can!' Featuring the most efficient suspension platform ever to grace a World Cup start line, the Epic Expert pairs 100-millimetres of BRAIN-controlled travel front and rear for a package that was born to erase seconds from the clock.

The All-New BRAIN. Smarter. Faster. Stronger. The culmination of nearly two decades of obsessive R&D and over 100 World Cup podiums, the new Brain is the most durable and efficient Specialized had ever made. Seamlessly switching from firm on smooth terrain to plush and active in the rough stuff, BRAIN thinks so you don’t have to.

Steeped in winning - In 2002 Specialized introduced a shock with a mind of its own, and revolutionised bicycle suspension. Integral to the winningest full suspension XC bikes ever, BRAIN technology has come a long way over the past two decades, but the all-new BRAIN is still in a class by itself when it comes to instantly and automatically adjusting suspension from firm to active to maximise efficiency and control.

BRAIN Technology in Epic forks and shocks knows the difference between pedalling force and bump force. It keeps suspension firm on smooth terrain and switches suspension to fully active the instant things get rough. The new Epic boasts our smartest BRAIN yet, completely redesigned to deliver a firmer firm setting, better bump management in all conditions and unprecedented durability and toughness. The BRAIN shock employs an inertia valve that blocks oil flow in the shock when closed, creating an efficiently firm pedalling platform on smooth terrain. The inertia valve opens instantaneously when a bump force is encountered, allowing suspension to compress and absorb the impact. This active suspension maintains momentum, increases control, reduces fatigue, and helps you reach the checkered flag faster.

Revamped valving of the new BRAIN shock provides a wider tuning range. Now there’s a much firmer platform when dialled to the maximum 'firm' setting, and a plusher 'open' setting on the other end of the spectrum. The BRAIN’s reservoir is relocated, smoothing oil flow and thereby improving bump-force management. This is the toughest shock Specialized has ever made. Dual bushings, a hardened steel shaft and boosted seal ratings all add up to extremely reliable long-haul performance. Recommended service intervals increased to 125 hours for the air spring (a 2.5 times increase compared to the previous generation BRAIN shock), and to 250 hours for the damper. World-class, premium servicing of BRAIN suspension is performed by Specialized New Zealand's suspension technician in Christchurch.

Feathery Ethereal - The culmination of two decades of obsessive refinement, the new Epic frames are lighter and stiffer than ever. The S-Works Epic FACT 12m carbon frame shaves over 100 grams from its predecessor, claimed to weigh just 1,869g (size medium, including shock, thru-axle, hanger and hardware). The top-shelf 12m frame employs a carbon link and both the 12m and 11m frames boast the same stiffness values (15% increase in rear triangle stiffness compared to the previous generation Epic) and ride quality. The FACT 11m frame found on the rest of the Epic range (including this Expert model) now matches the weight of the previous generation S-Works Epic frame. A mere 78 grams heavier at 1,947g (again, size medium, including shock, thru-axle, hanger and hardware) compared the new S-Works frame.

Progressive Geometry - Dominating today’s technical XC courses demands geometry that borrows from trail bikes while optimising XC responsiveness. Combining precise handling with improved capability in technical terrain, Specialized relaxed the headtube to 67.5 degrees, stuck with the reduced fork offset that they pioneered in 2018, increased reach, specified shorter stems, shortened chainstays and dropped the bottom bracket by 9mm. Bring it.

  • Offering 100-millimetres of brilliantly efficient BRAIN-controlled travel, the Epic’s FACT 11m carbon frame increases rear-triangle stiffness for peerless power transfer and introduces the most capable handling in an Epic yet, all while shedding weight over the previous-generation Epic.

  • The RockShox SID SL BRAIN fork serves up 100-millimetres of brilliantly controlled BRAIN travel for efficient performance that pairs perfectly with the Epic's rear BRAIN system.

  • Sprightly stoppers from SRAM, Level TL brakes offer smooth modulation for precise speed control.

  • Descending from a long World Cup lineage, hand-built Roval Control Carbon wheels feature a modern 29-millimetre internal-width hookless rim, and maximise strength, ride quality, and durability while keeping weight to a minimum.
